Wall Of Fame LYNN MEREDITH Class of 1969
Lynn Meredith is known in the music arena as the lead singer for the original progressive rock group Kansas. Lynn decided to be a musician when he saw The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. He joined a garage band the next day and combed his very short hair down onto his forehead, which got him expelled from Manhattan Junior High School (MHS East.) From the age of 13 Lynn sang soul music, especially James Brown, then added rock. Many MHS students in the late 1960s observed his performances in the regional bands Saratoga and White Clover before he helped form the original Kansas in 1970 in Topeka. The group would later form Kansas II, then Kansas III, the version to go on to national fame.

Lynn decided to return to KSU for a second career of teaching and coaching. He remembered that a passionate teacher makes all the difference. He has kept music close. Living in Pittsburg, KS, with his family, he manages Andy William’s Moon River Theatre and Grill in Branson, MO and is active in regional broadcasting. In 2002, a Kansas II original demo was released and Lynn, with several other original Kansas members, got back together as the band Proto Kaw. They recorded and toured Europe, with Lynn as the vocalist. Lynn has served on the board for the Kansas Association of Broadcasters and is active in local civic affairs.
